If not too late, very minor suggestion:

task, and ..." I suggest: " ..... addresses engineering and R&D tasks
(that) are needed for this (), and ...."
() contains modification
3 lines above section 3 Detector Engineering and R&D on
pg 3: "these (requirements) ..."
